Salad night

There are 2 seasons when nothing seems appetizing and I don't want to bother cooking: extreme winter as in February, and extreme summer as is now.

In the cold, I could be at the supermarket and feeling hungry, but I look at the produce, and it all seems boring and dead to me, even fruits and vegetables I normally like. I end up with roasts and roasted vegetables to go with them like sweet potatoes and carrots, but it seems like too much trouble. All I really want is fatty junk like chocolate and ice cream and Pepperidge Farm cookies. I don't even have the energy to make cookies myself-- something else I normally enjoy.

Accepted. I still don't know why "everyone" hates her. I did a Google on her...

In the heat, it is the same feeling. In fact, that's why I subscribed to this group again the other day. I needed inspiration and a kick in the pants to get back in the kitchen and cooking. The farm stands are filled with the best summer produce, but making so much as a smoothie feels like too much trouble. I've been making them anyway from bananas, peaches, and frozen juice cubes. For lunch just now we had an arugula salad and leftover turkey. Perfectly good food and I picked at it. When it is this hot, all I want is sweet junk like soda and candy.

The suggestion in this thread for tzatziki is a good one. I'll ask my boss at work to order the goat yogurt he got last year. That was wonderful stuff.
