The Cook However, the military no longer required it to be written or printed on your personal checks that you cash on base. They just...

I'm totally with you on this. I do not ever give out my SSN. Not only that, but I don't give the cashier's my zip code or phone number either. When asked to fill out personal information for a return, I don't put my information in other than my name. If they insist that I put an address, I make one up, and tell them I am doing so. My information is my own and I chose who gets it.

Nancy1 Heh, your son must have a good bank. A few years ago I went to get a loan for my new...

I was making a return at Best Buy. "We'll send you a check in 10-14 days". Excuse me? No you won't. I paid by cash, not a check. "But your return is more than $100, Miss, so we'll have to send a check." No, no you won't. First, I'm going to be refunded my money in the same currency in which I both it AND my money for an extra 2 weeks? "That's our policy Miss". I'd like to speak to the Manager, please. Manager comes, begins with the same rigmarole. I am steadfast. He finally agrees to refund my money in cash, immediately, after I ask him what his response would be if I went to the check out line with a television and said 'Thanks, I'll send you a check in 10-14 days!' He has the cash in his hand, but rather than put it in mine, he hands me a form and says "I'll need your name, address, and phone number and I need to see your ID." No, says I. "Excuse me?" You heard me right, dear boy. I said NO. No one had any interest in my name when I bought the product. No one asked my address when it was rung up. No one was looking for my ID when they took the cash from my hand. If it wasn't necessary then, why should it be now?

rummaged among random neurons and opined: Funny you should mention...after browsing this thread for the last couple of days, I wandered over...

He finally just handed me my money and sighed.

I'm not a difficult person, really I'm not. I'm just tired of retailers thinking they're kings entitled to any information they want, and forgetting they'd be out of business without us "pain in the tuckus" customers.
