As a victim of ID theft - a piece of advice: contact the major credit bureaus and request that your file be flagged to NOT allow companies to access it for "pre-approved" credit cards. That's how my identity was stolen - the ID thief stole mail from my mailbox and submitted all this stuff in my name.

The thief was caught and charged with ID theft, bank fraud, theft of negotiable documents, forgery, and parole violations among other things. She stole checks from an escrow comapny, forged them to the tune of $10,000, opened a fraudulent bank account in my name, bounced checks on it, ran up credit card bills, etc. Her one mistake was on one card she used her actual address. When I got the credit report and turned it over to the sheriff's office they discovered they already had her in custody and just added my ID theft charge onto her laundry list of other crimes. They actually had photos of her in the bank opening accounts in my name with a phony SS card and photo ID. They took those photos to my mail forwarder and discovered then that I had been in Honduras for 2 years and the woman in the photo was definitely NOT me. They finally caught up with her at her actual place of residence in the
