I certainly hope you went to the videohelp forum and applied the latest firmware and drive updates, along with the hack that disables Macrovision protection. If you're not on the latest firmware, you are going to run into some bizzare problems and you will hate me forever. If you haven't we'll have to hook up so you can do it. Please don't ignore this - it's the reason you can't buy one anymore - Walley dropped it. You can buy the Liteon LVW-5045 which is an upgrade and has a 160 gig drive, also has updates and hacks available. It's a fair amount more expensive though. If something happens to it, don't let Walley exchange it for the one they carry now - it's absolute crap. BTW, even though the SLP speed drops to MPEG-1, I use it all the time for those old VHS tapes that have 2 or three movies on them - you can put 6 hours on each dvd with no noticable loss of quality.
(Some of the problems on old firmware are serious and you may think it's fine until KABOOM. Everything is gone, or locked up, or everything is green . . . . .. etc.) Let me know, I'll try to remember everything. You just download the firmware updates, write them to cd with Roxio or whatever, and use those for the updates. You do have to careful and apply in the correct order. Also, the editing process is a little tricky, requiring you to get the "finger timing" spot on, but I've gotten pretty good at split and merge, adding several show to collections, doing chapter marks and editing commercials. Lots of tricks available at www.videohelp.com in the forums, but you may need help finding the right one. OK, I'll shut up
OT: Shoebox CommercialNuh-uh. They're still using it. The radio at the gym is tuned to the new JACK station (which replaced ARROW) and every freakin' morning while I shower and dress, it crops...
