The transformation of the world (not the US) has nothing to do with anything that's even remotely topical and is not recent. It only seems that way to you because that's the time (among others) you're most familiar with.
In fact, it's a process of a far-greater extent; e.g. the rise in the gender ratio of dissolutions, which has occurred in every nation on earth and has been ongoing for the past 70 years or more; the rise in female-male ratio throughout the professions, likewise ongoing almost continuously (except for the WWII backtrack -- which likewise cuts across the board) since the early part of the 20th century; the progressive rise in pay equity -- now over 90-100 in the US and showing signs of crossing the 100-100 mark for the post-1985 generation

To put it more briefly: you're too young to have a proper perspective on the situation and to understand that nothing topical or recent (including the 1960's) is of even the remotest relevance to what's going on. Conservatism, liberalism, welfare, socialism, etc. are utterly irrelevant. None of these have anything to do with anything. Nobody caused anything.
Indeed, had it not been for the WWII backtrack, the 50-50 mark for college enrollment, degrees earned, etc. would have crossed over in the 1950's, as it was clearly poised to do by the time WWII had started. Instead, it only crossed over in the 1980's; and (in the US) 2003 for med schools, c. 2002 for law schools, 2004 for PhD's, and 2003 for the managerial profession, itself.
As explained in the "Fourth Wave" preview and as will be explained further in the Fall of Mankind, the underlying change is far deeper historically, far more pervasive, and is directly connected to the Lost Horizon and the Easter Island Syndrome ... in conjunction with the phase change that took place c. 1975 in the world population curve, and buttociated phase change (Toffler's, the Third Wave) underway since then, worldwide.
