restaurant question 4674

Hey, I had a corner tavern, once! It was quite common back in the day for me to not have to pay up until the end of the week. "Put it on my tab" was a common phrase. We're talking 20 years ago, though.

It Oh god, there was this guy, named Jim. He was a good customer, everyone thought he was a nice guy... until he ran up a $200 bar tab and vanished without a word. My friend Paula and I went to eat at a Mexican place one day and who was our server? Jim! Hey, dude, remember us? You gypped our bar out of a couple hundred bucks. Shall we go tell your boss you're a loser?? Funny, the person who brought us our food wasn't Jim. LOL

I've told the story before when I worked as a hostess and this guy pretended he was waiting for his wife and kids. He scammed me/us out of a meal pretending he was going outside to look for his wife. The guy was a natural born actor; we/I sincerely thought he was worried that they hadn't shown up. He left behind a "shopping bag" as collateral, which turned out to be filled with newspaper clippings. Live and learn.

It's always a good idea to have good credit where you drink ;)
