Seems it's the afternoon for snake stories!
When my twins were around 4 months old I used to lay rugs in the (sunny) loungeroom for 'nappy off' time. They'd lay & squirm around for around half an hour or so, enjoying some air & sun on their bods & bots prior to going for a nap. I'd dress them and re-nappy them in the loungeroom. On the day in question, I had (minutes beforehand) picked up both squirming babes and taken them back to their room to be put down for a nap. When I returned back to loungeroom our cat - a choc. point siamese - had brought in a present.... an 18" long brown snake, one of Australia's deadliest snakes. Dear thing then let it go! I had, thankfully, left the vaccuum cleaner around the corner in the dining room so while still watching the snake and monitoring it's whereabouts, I grabbed the vc and plugged it it. Snake darted for a corner which also contained a wicker basket full to overflowing with magazines & newspapers. In my haste to get the basket away I tipped it over and in went the brown snake!! After using the vc to suck up each individual mag/paper & shake to make sure snake wasn't hiding within, eventually cleared the entire stack (around 50 mags!!) only to find said brown snake lurking at the bottom of the basket. On went the vc & I sucked that little bugger right up!. Then jammed a cloth down the pipe to prevent the snake coming back up the hose. This is where it gets amusing. I rang husband at work and asked him, excitedly, "how long will it take for a snake to suffocate in a vaccuum cleaner if it's turned on or off?" he asked me to repeat the question, meanwhile putting me on speaker so the entire office could hear. It wasn't until I heard the whole office erupt in gales of laughter that I realised what he'd done and felt like a total twit! Told me to turn off the vc & put it in the garage & he'd deal with it on his return. (Thinking it was a harmless, non venomous variety of garden snake) Was a tad alarmed when he discovered some hours later it was indeed a brown snake. It was quickly deposited into our rubbish bin in FOUR (repeat FOUR) separate pieces!!!!!
worse than a cockroachOT 685rummaged among random neurons and opined: LadyJane's snake story reminded me of a shudder second snake story in my family. We were visiting...
recently we've had a carpet python living around our clothes dryer - stayed for about a week when it was exceedingly cold and has since moved on to greener pastures.
LadyJane -- "Never trust a skinny cook!" or a venomous snake!!!! dead (deadly) snakes can't bite!
