It was a fairly basic mistake.

No. Most of the 'research' on H. neaderthaliensis is badly flawed - mainly based on the bias of one researcher. New research is showing that and the description should be much clearer in 5 - 10 years time.

Evidence. I've been told that about people for whom I have the baptismal and burial records - and that wasn't true either. In my experience the reality just isn't as you describe it - and there is no evidence to show that it was.

There were more battles last century than before. Given the chance then human life expectancy has been the same for thousands if not tens of thousands of years. Wars and famine happen but they were exceptions that broke the pattern.

Which is why I said "because they get food". You need a minimum with a reasonable balance. But childhood illnesses kill and they would kill today just as easily despite our 'improved' diet. Vaccination and intensive care keeps kids alive today - that plus clean water.

True. But there are other good reasons for not eating fish.

Less relevant. Maybe. Diseases that hit only late in life have very little relevance.

But that's not connected with us having shorter life expectancy in the past. It's all (and only) about us then being past the age when we pbutt on our genes.
