And? if we spent our days eating oysters and crabs cooked over beach fires, (and there ain't much in the way of vegetables on most beaches mate) we still weren't vegetarians by any stretch of the imagination.

We wrer hunter gatherers, and there is a privatesens of a sight more edible MEAT roaming the landscape than edible plants, even today.

Equipped with a bow and arrow round here on Sunday, I could have bagged several pigeons, hares and rabbits and a muntjac and a couple of Roe deer.

As far as vegetables go - bugger all. Stinging nettles maybe. Dandelions. Herbs. No potatoes pre the New World. Plenty of FRUIT at this time of year - various wild plums and blackberries....shoudl be honey too..

MOST of the mammalian life of this planet lives on crappy stuff we cannot digest. Leaves, Grbutt, Lichens, small scale seeds. OUR living has always been to eat those animals.

Up to the agrarian revolutionm, when we started keeping them, to make hunting easier, and then growing grbuttes for them to eat, so they didn't have to wander far.

All civilisation is is a way to feed more peasants by progressively vegetising their diet till they just about died, and then backing off a notch.

Only in the New World was there really the sorts of plants that make decent starches and proteins - things like potatoes, beans and the like. And the best cereal crop - Maize.

All plant derived of course. And eating other animals baby food. Milk.

Anyine whoi has actually visited the plains and seashores of Africa will know what its like. Meat is there. Water is scarce and plants you can eat - apart from fruit - are vanishingly scarce. Unless cultivated.
