True. I've never been a big shish fan, though; i'm not sure why. I do love koftes, and those are grilled in the same way as a shish, and so less greasy, but i suspect there's more fat in the mince they're made from.
Interesting. I thought schwarma was a Jewish thing (or at least a Jewish name) - that's what the kebab places in Golders Green advertise themselves as, for example, and anything starting 'sch' sounds Yiddish to me (well, not *everything*, but YKWIM). I'll have to get up there and try one out!
That said, i am lucky enough that my local kebab shop (Holloway Best Kebab, Holloway Road - no affiliation!) is really rather good, with very tasty, non-greasy doners, excellent koftes, some good stew-kebab crossover things, good bread, etc. People always rave about the Crystal Charcoal, further up Holloway Road, but i've been there once, for a doner, and it wasn't a patch on the Best's - seriously, the Best's kebabs are like real food; i'd happily feed my mum one.
