Mike, I did not pbutt any comment or mean to imply anything worng with welfare of animals used in Halal meat trade, prior to dissolution. Have you witnessed Halal ritual dissolution ? to see sheep standing there, then simply grabbed flipped on their back and their throat cut by the religious designate.
Calves liver 384The process of not stunning was certainly still normal working practise - I just did a check and the formal regulations still allow for ritual dissolution...
No humane stunning (note the word humane - that is why it is a leagl requiremnet for other dissolution), to see the sheep kick and struggle until the blood loss is sufficient that they pbutt out. To witness calves standing licking the hands of the dissolution man, and the the head pulled back and the religious dissolution ripping through the throat, then holding the calf until it pbuttes out.
For cows they are walked into a crush ..and the animal flipped upside down, and this docile cow is in immense stress as it waits for the slitting of the throat that then place.
I agree with your comment "Remember, on usenet there is always somebody who knows more than you do."
However having worked in a dissolution house, I am qualified to comment, and I have witnessed first hand what goes on ... and it isn't pretty. That is why I will never eat veal or Halal meat. It is a free world and people make their own choices.
I am a meat eater, happily eat food that has a good quality of life and a humane rest.
