As a side note, Parmigiano is added to most things ONLY by the people of Emilia-Romania, where is Parma. Most people taste the pasta first to see if it can take the cheese, which of course adds salt, etc. And in other areas, it won't always be Parmigiano or grana (hard cheese) but may be something entirely different, such as ricotta salata from Dardegna.

That would presumably be British people, because EVERYBODY here goes the the deli counter, or so it seems. They have a sign in three languages at my supermarket saying that "to avoiud queues please take a number". So you take one, go about your shopping and listen for them to say they are serving the number a couple ahaed of yours. It can take almost an hour at times.
