So I didn't take a packed lunch on Saturday, I went shopping instead. On the corner of the High Street is the International Supermarket; I...

Rick Stein's Crab Newburg
Yes, those were Rick's words, after which, he quoted the original Faber recipe :- "We boil...

I love the idea od chr. pud soaked in alcohol...MUST remember taht!. Trifle is on my list (will hundreds and thousands bee too trivial??? :)))))

In our household my husband is the cheief Chr. cake eater...the first time he made the icing he overdid it...both the quanbreasties and the amount of glicerine added...we arranged the father christmas band, exercising f-Christmases and the gathereed small animals and birds...in the morning...it looked like after a blizzard...the F-Ch witht he tuba was sunk...just the tip of the tuba visible...there were scattered legs and arms - sticking out of the snowy icing (the exercising ones(, antlers barely visible, birds just showing their feet (toppled over in the blizzard??), the big fat father Christmas who usuallly listens to the band in his roocking chair was gone...just the tip of his hat visible....it was shocking!!!!

anyway - have you tried fried Christmas cake? It's quite wonderful! Someone made it for us but his version was just far too rich for me. His version: skillet + butter + slice of Ch. cake, fry gently, eat with double cream My version: skillet + no fat - it will come out of the cake anyway. gently fry - the icing will start being runny. then almost caramelissed, crunchy, keeping bits of the cake together. Eat with no cream...it is very good!
