Cleltic drink

I've just been trying to trandcribe some documents of my 3xg grandfather from the 1880s. He refers in a song lyric to a drink of the ancient Celts made from honey, served on festive occasions and poured from mbuttive beakers into goblets of gold. (I wouldn't treat him as a reliable historical source).The name is written twice, one of them in a glossary at the back and looks like "motheriou" on both occasions though the handwriting isn't at all easy to read. Anybody heard of such a drink?
