i do the heatgun thing (twice a week) (i tried the prima popcorn thing and it burnt out and the roast is too fast anyway)
the heatgun thing is very do-able (although you may find it tedious)
you get a stainless bowl - people talk about dogbowls but i like one with high sides the one i use is about 12" diameter and 10" high
stick in your green beans and hve the gun about 6" away and CONSTANTLY stir, use a balloon whisk
you will get a first crack after 8 mins or so (this sounds like a soft pop)
keep going - at about 12mins you will get a second crack (this is a sharp crack) and some smoke
when you are getting a constant cracking dump the beans into a colander and cool as fast as possible (if you keep emptying them between two colanders or bowls it will do the job)
store in a sealed jar and rest for two-three days (they emit carbon dioxide and will taste sour until rested)
Do this outside as it stinks and there are silverskins everywhere

It seems like work, but the results are well worth it for an affiecianado (or foodie types)
I do this twice a week and have the best freshest coffee around Its worth it for me,
