I was taught at school that alcohol didn't freeze. Given that school belongs to the train of thought that had a hell of a hard time admitting in public that maybe, after all, the Earth wasn't the centre of the universe with the Sun revolving around it, my education is due for yet another sarcastic appraisal.
You know how sod's law dictates that the shower will be cold first thing in the morning, and if it isn't it will be the shower gel anyway, for once it played in my favour and the gin was the perfect temperature out of the freezer: perfectly gooey, liquid enough to pour nicely but hard enough to melt very langorously, leaving little crystals behind that reflected light onto the olives. Call me sentimental but it's the little, unexpected pleasures like these that get me every time. :)
Back from Lake District - thanks to those who suggested places for food. We couldn't go unfortunately, they were either a bit upmarket or wholewheartedly booked already (figures). In the endwe tried the Crossed Keys in Tebay, which was a very nice pub. There's no escaping the garlic braided mushrooms and curiously cooked vegetables, but the steak and ale pie was really worth it - and for once still much better. Happy Greg.
