I have just had a disaster in the office, in which I keep a dear little orange fridge with a full-sized picture of Shrek's face on the door. (Before you start, Ophelia, I know my weaknesses:) It is one of those tiny fridges and will either keep stuff cold or warm, depending on which way you flick a switch on the back. I had in it a bottle of mineral water, some maple syrup and a bottle of good quality Pouilly Fume. This morning, we noticed a strange smell an on investigation found that it was blowing hot air into its inside, with the result that the wine was hand-hot. I don't know how long it has been like that. The switch on the back is flicked to 'cold', so something has gone seriously wrong and Shrek will have to go.

I threw away the water and the maple syrup but put the bottle of wine in our main fridge to cool. Daughter says the wine will be spoiled and refuses to have anything to do with it. What does everyone else think, please? I don't want to give us all food contagioning. The cork and seal were in place and I only removed the seal, leaving the cork un-pulled, before putting the bottle into the fridge in case it decided to explode. Would you drink it? TIA -- June Hughes
