Still ploughing through recipes for the breadmachine! I made some hot cross buns (from the Panasonic booklet) which were nice but I wanted something lighter.
Consequently, I tried a recipe in the Sainsbury's magazine which was supposed to be ok for bread machines - but they turned out awful and the first batch that I've had to throw straight in the bin. I thought the dough was going to break the machine so I added a little more milk to at least give the machine a chance. Anyway the dough didn't rise much and was solid as a rock. The result heavy buns!
I've noticed that some recipes use plain flour instead of the strong bread flour - which was the reason I wanted to try the recipe in the Sainsbury's magazine.
Would plain flour give a lighter hot cross bun or not? Also which recipes are better, if any, using plain flour rather than the strong bread flours. I noticed Delia's recipe for hot cross buns uses Carrs CC flour which is described on their site as breadmakers flour. Really getting confused now as to what to use!
Maybe should ask what your best recipe for Hot Cross Buns is!
Would appreciate your comments. Joan
