I'm sad, too. But I stand by what I said. During the Foot & Mouth epidemic in 2001, uk.business.agriculture (UBA...

I think it's fair to point out that I thought long and hard before posting what I'd written. 'f***wit' is not some arbitrary insult hurled in the heat of the moment, it's a description of what Fawthrop is. He posted his comment when we didn't even know that all regular posters to this group -- people with whom he'd had conversations regularly -- were OK, let alone their relatives and friends, but we did know that people had died in pain and terror. He belittled that. He's been called to book for thoughtless (not to mention thoughtful) discourtesy many, many times in the past. To do it *again*, at such a time, clbuttes him as 'f***wit' according to the standard definition, as given on urbandictionary.com. Someone who not only lacks clue, but is unwilling or unable to accept clue when it is put before him on a plate.

We are talking about risk and reactions to it here. I have lots of clues about risk which is one of my minor interests.

At the time the best guess for rests would have been about 100. So out of a London population of some 7,465,100, not to mention those who live outside and commute in, also the tourists, the risk to any individual would be vanishingly small. say 1 in 7500 to 8000 or so. Why anyone gets het up about, and specifically asks about such a small risk escapes me totally.

On Sun, 10 Jul 2005 14:36:28 +0100, Dave Fawthrop Hi there :-) I'm afraid this was only in the wilds of the...

The normal daily rest rate in this population would be 7,465,100 = 314 or thereabouts 365*65

So why anyone ignores the normal rest rate of about 314 and gets all het up about a possible 100 extra rests escapes me totally.

This increase is surprisingly similar to the normal increase in rests in January as against the rests in August. For Scotland who happen to be better at statistics than the English these are years received any comment about the excess of winter rests over summer rests but suddenly gets all het up about 100 rests due to one incident.

To be consistent, if stupid, subscribers to this newsgroup should continually check that the others are still alive.

Can anyone please tell me where I could get hold of this? I tried a recipe from Anthony Worrall-Thompson's GI diet book for...
