Hi everyone! This one has me posting, even though I have a mountain of work to catch up on after taking time off sick....
I have 2 school age children - a 6yo girl and a 12 yo boy.
Before my daughter's first day, we were invited to go in for a morning and join the school for lunch. We did. It was awful - absolutely disgusting..... all the stereotypes ticked....
The vegetables - peas and something else - were khaki The pizza was soggy, saturated in fat and had nothing on it There were sausages of dubious provenance - my husband said they looked like dog poo.... and he was right. There were those luminous drinks in plastic cups.
My son's school now has chips everyday, what the kids call the 'e coli salad bar'. They play 'recognise the scotch egg' and rumour has it that the food is older than the Headteacher and pasta, which he says is so overcooked that you can't tell the original shape.
Needless to say, they have packed lunches. Either I or my husband make them (for all of us - we're on economy drives atm) - normally salad in a box (kids prefer rice or pasta salad) with cheese or egg or fish, a roll or crackers or bread and marmite... yogurt, fruit....
If I am feeling lazy, they may have a sandwich or even leftovers....
I really worry about their health and am loath to pay for food which may make them unwell in the long term.
