I am quite disparaging of supermarkets, the tricks they use and the impact they have but I have to eat Value humble pie at the moment as funds simply mean we have to buy whatever's cheapest. I know full well it's substandard as the occbuttional box of local veg and meat from the folks in Lincs really shows the difference.
I also used to work on a farm so have seen firsthand the things farmers have to put up with in supermarket interference and the way your stuff seems to end up all over the country or beyond when there's a market right there at home. Not to mention supermarkets holding prices as gluts occur and farmers get paid peanuts while they rake it in.
I wish I could but there's no other way we could afford our groceries otherwise. It will change soon, hopefully, but it shows supermarkets have a place, even if it's nowhere near as big as it should be. I suppose the first step is getting more people eating F&V in the first place, if the average kid is like those on Jamie's School Dinners.
