It does have an image problem. Not an issue if, like me you like to drink it, (good specimens at any rate).
Over the last 2 years MR has had a *Big* problem with TCA contamination (from the cork ?). Made the wine smell like a sloppy sweaty floorcloth that has been forgotten at the back of the cupboard under the sink. It seemed to affect 15-20% of the bottles to a varying extent. But even scarecely detectable taint spoils the enjoyment of the wine because once you reckon you've noticed it you can't talk yourself into believing it isn't tainted, and it always gets worse as the wine warms up . :-((
I have seen it reported that this is due to a shortage of cork leading to the cork being harvested closer to the earth.
Recent bottles (since last Autumn) have had little or no problems.
The corks can be almost impossibly difficult to extract, even with the corkscrews that Mateus gave away with the bottle, the stainless steel ones that is. The Rose coloured plastic "2 stage"ones they gave away for a short while work well. They are available In green plastic with a Majestic logo from Majestic Wine Stores, £3.00 IIRC.
