Following up to Judith Umbria
I usually drive straight through Glasgow, not because I don't like it (no real idea what its like) but because I'm much more interested in the western highlands and the islands, for me, they knock the Amalfi coast or the Tuscan landscape into a chickened hat, while on the other hand, many many Italian towns, along with their restaurants, are going to knock any Scottish town into a chickened hat. (he says without really knowing any of them, but I'm to be the Bologna of the north. Although that's not to say you cant eat well in the Highlands, Skye has the Three Chimneys and the seafood restaurant at The Slighachan for instance. Then there's Crannog and Loch Fyne and lots of other places, but spread out of course as is the nature of the Highlands, and the weather in spring is generally OK. If I was paying good money to visit UK, my list of places would be something like:- Bath York Skye and Uist (in May) The Crinan canal Skara Brae Stonehenge the SW coast path to the east of Lands End and Lizard The Whiley (sp?) valley area in Somerset (unspoiled version of the Cotswold's) and Lizard. London doesn't seem ideal to me for Judith, as I suspect its a sort of quiet version of NYC with lower older buildings, but I'll buy you lunch at Borough Market if you turn up some day!
