No Chips Fries

I have a 16 year old son and 19 year old daughter at home.

Monday we planned roast chicken. My daughter offered to put the oven chips on, to which I replied that there we were not having chips, as there was some potato salad in the 'fridge and the children could have boiled potatoes (simple).

After much debate and shouting regarding my son already having chips twice in the last week and explanations about heating an oven up for one portion of chips, everybody fell out and nobody had dinner.

This has been happening quite frequently since the children have grown up. Naturally, their tastes change and I try to accommodate them as much as I can with roast chicken, pizza, pasta, burgers........ My wife and I often have to sacrifice thing we like in order to keep the peace.

My daughter is not too bad regarding food, but my son is becoming really awkward in more ways than one. (He is still in bed at 1pm).

One has to think about:

Health Economy Variety Time Likes-Dislikes Availability

My wife sometimes aggravates the situation by giving into my son, whom she, quite naturally, dotes on.

I do have an affection for food, including home grown, but should we give into the children's demands?

Trouble is, if we do, the kind of food they like is often pre-prepared and more expensive to cook.

Jane Gillett I do not believe that is true in that sense. :-)) Most, if not all people that eat sausage with rusk in them think that they are nicer to eat...
