On Thu, 11 Aug 2005 16:36:59 +0100, "Oxymel of Squill" I recently "rediscovered" it too. My mother bought some recently (well, in the last couple of years). She'd heard somewhere (radio-paper-whatever) that Heinz...

We're lucky, with some large (for small values of large) areas quite close by, although without a dog we don't use them as much as we used to.

I'm not at all keen on the Woodland Trust for a different set of reasons. They campaigned in this area to create community woodlands, which seems on the face of it to be a good idea. But their campaign literature relied on pictures of ancient woodland, full of bluebells and towering trees. There is *NO WAY* our parish's 2 acre wood will look like that in the foreseeable future, and I'm talking centuries. They planted it on a field that had been arable-grbuttland since the Chilterns were first cleared for agriculture, 4000 or more years ago. There is no nearby seed source for those woodland flowers, no source for the fungi to create the conditions they require... and no plans for the management needed to create the habitats needed to maintain them. All the PR stuff showed coppice woodland; when I asked the local rep how they'd organise the coppicing, she backed right off and said long term management is up to local communities. They didn't even provide any information explaining what might be needed. I was seriously unimpressed by their atbreastude to the project, especially when the local communities put a lot of money into it.
