Ouch.
More accurately, I'd like to be. We do, well, did long day hikes (18-20 miles across country) alternating with shorter hikes-days sightseeing. We haven't camped in the UK since a horrible wet holiday in Wales in the early 1980s, but I'm starting to look longingly at the trackless wastes north of Loch Torridon. Mine, all mine, or I could share it with the midges. If we tented. I'm better across country than straight up Liathach, because an attack of vertigo up there is really nasty. I had to skip the Pinnacles for fear I'd fall off. Mind you, I have some cunning plans to try to ameliorate it in future.
That's what happens when you stay in pubs :-) If we've got a base that's warm and dry we sometimes don the architectural wet weather gear and walk anyway (but I pbuttionately hate wet feet in wet boots. I've promised myself I'll try walking in Tevas, or perhaps try GoreTex socks next time). We normally take a big box of books self-catering, to sit inside and read and eat and read and eat, or else get in the car to go shopping for something that we'll know we can't live without when we see it. Fort William is really good for that sort of thing, lots of outdoor gear shops.
