Following up to sarah

They landed right in front of me, as you could see in the last picture, crewman got out to walk to summit or do something RAFish, said hello, that was it. I considered faking broken ankle.

The situation at the Wasdale Head. Me (an old git fellwalker) Other old git fellwalkers. Mike, the shepherd-barman. Howard, the owner. Howards dog. Various blokes from the MRT. The (live in) pretty young Australian barmaid with the traditional frontal attributes of barmaids in spades.

I might have done a comic begging act, or offered trays of deadly chocolate brownies...

Your question. Which one of the above was offered a flight by our dashing pilot?

These are poor tactics for photography.

As far as I'm concerned, it's just a shape in which to cook material prepared in a way that means some of the other people in the house might forth if they...

Yes, there is pretty and there is beautiful, the best mountains have a terrible beauty.

Yes, my thing about Wasdale is something rather different. As no doubt you guess, I love the highlands too, although I find them harder to get to grips with photographically as well as walking wise. Wasdale is a peopled environment. I only go in autumn-winter when its quiet, its just the staff, one or two hillwalkers, often regulars we have met before. A few "posh" people staying the hotel. Because its a small community of outdoor enthusiasts, based around the Wasdale Head (you don't see a lot of most of the farmers except at show time) its very interesting in ways other than the scenery. All sorts of things have happened over the years, often after closing time, the interaction of hotel guests, walkers and staff can get interesting. :-) -- Mike Reid
