Following up to The Reids
Now I am used to Agent 3, a final comment for anyone interested. If you want to use multiple servers (no idea how you do it), get 3. You will be able to fill in missing messages and add private groups not on your news server. For the non power user 3 is more complex for no advantage I can see. It introduces the concept of "desks" to the subscribed ngs pane, so you can have several desks for different users (I buttume). This is OK I suppose but you have to be careful to have the correct desk highlighted when you start to download. Downloading now uses multiple connections, so all groups download at once, maybe this is faster? On my clapped out old PC it goes into "updating folder" mode and thrashes for a minute or so each download, dont know why. A downside is that the status messages bottom left are now confusing, no, lets be honest, they are wrong. I rectify this by opening task manager and watching the download from there, that way I am sure when it has finished. At first a "close connection?" dialogue kept popping up so I went to options and cancelled it. I would recommend a tour through all the options after a week using it to make sure you have what you want. Another negative is that if you have second thoughts on a post and go to Outbox to modify it, your place in current NG is lost. Another funny problem is they have dropped "unsubscibe but save messages", loads of people are panicking about this and the rest of us were wondering why? Who cares? Eventually someone put thier hand up (have you guessed?) there are NGs that contain naughtyness, looks like hubby wanted to keep his activities quiet.:-) -- Mike Reid
