Having been accused of being a tory.....I feel that I should put the record straight.
A country I admire is Cuba
Where a lot of the population from old folk to teenagers and students beleive in a greater good...in a society that does not create the levels of personal greed that we have over here. And where there is "something" to beleive in. Where older people are given a level of respect. Where real pride exists in the state. And profit is not the only driver. The so called socialists in this country have no respect for the weaker and less well off in society and in the caseof the unions just use their power to lever their own selfish position upwards. Never taking a real broad view of society.
Castro will die soon and no doubt Cuba will follow the capitalist model as it surges into a new future of entreprenurial greed.
Sure its not perfect.....never was.....but it still has values that we have sadly lost forever.
Im sure they are as indoctrinated........ as we are in our own society but as kennedy once said
"think not what your country can do for you..think what you can do for your country" with due apologies for misquotes.
But the idea of putting your country first here and now is about as likely as Tony Blair reducing or changing the pension scheme for MPs. And as for teenagers bought up on diet of instant celebrity and footballers earning £100000 a week how can we ask them to develop a mindset of contributing to a just and respectful society....................
When I was young we wanted to make the world a better place................................well we f***ed up!!!
ok I'll get back to my favourite marmite recipes :)
