And I fundamentally disgree.
While I'm sure the UK government gets lots of interesting compliments from the US government for sending its soldiers to the ends of the earth to get end for no very good reason I'm inclined to think that their primary purpose isn't to defend some pest hole in Afghanistan but to save the citizens of this country.
I pay my taxes and I really do expect some hulking thug to come charging up the beach armed to the teeth to save me when things get nasty because otherwise, why do I pay the bloody taxes?
It certainly isn't a desire to see Messrs Blair and Cameron collect several tens of thousands of pounds a year for doing 'not very much'.
I pay National Insurance for my health care and Council Tax to get my bins emptied and UK Income Tax to make damn sure that if I get into trouble abroad someone will come and try to get me out of it...
