Recommendation South Lincs

We had a meal out last night at the Hare and Hounds pub in Haconby, near Bourne, Lincs. We were impressed. Good, freshly prepared food at have a small basic menu changing by season and constantly changing dishes on the blackboards, depending on what's available. Good choice of vegetarian dishes (it was my step-daughter's birthday so that mattered) and a strong ethical policy on sourcing locally etc. They actually offer to buy in local produce in exchange for meals.

Last night they were specialising in fish, though there were plenty of meat options too. I had whitebait with home-made tartare sauce (3.50) and a whole sea bbutt with buttortment of roasted artichoke hearts, red onions etc (9.50). The puddings are also home-made and good - e.g. the mint chocolate pot was made with fresh mint (3.75) Beer drinkers had something from the Grantham Brewery (which I'd never heard of before) and were impressed. The wine's start at about 10.00.

There weren't many people eating there there last night, sadly. I hope the place is a big success - this area isn't overwhelmed by interesting places to eat. We'll certainly be back - my d-in-l will love it. -- Phil C.
