Mungo"Two Sheds-" Toadfoot You do have a valid point, but saying that so has June. If over...

DDT is a bad case to choose because there is little and conflicting evidence that it has harmful effects on humans. The main problem with it was the mbuttive environmental impact it had due to widespread agricultural use. But it can be, and still is, used in small scale situations to kill off malaria carrying mosquitoes, in houses and other enclosed areas in small quanbreasties.

Nobody is denying that dioxins and PCBs are harmful (they are extremely so), and practically anything fatty these days can contain them. The only argument is what is a safe level, which varies from country to country.

I was just pointing out that fish that isn't farmed can contain far higher concentrations of nasty chemicals than farmed fish. It's all very well having a load of ruckus about farmed salmon, but then the average punter goes and buys herrings instead and winds up an order of magnitude worse off.

We are lucky will still have some good ones. I agree completely but have snipped for brevity. Yes. And when the oil price goes up enough to make supermarket practice of carting goods around...

Don't ask the youth, look at the labels, they generally give country of origin and whether it's farmed or wild. I don't know of any reputable fishmongers around here and I don't want to be transporting it miles on hot, sweaty busses so I make do with Asda's offerings.

Quite. Unless you're eating lots of oily fish every day I doubt there's anything really to worry about. It's just another in a long list of food scares. Dioxin levels are *falling* overall, and don't think this is just a fish problem. Meat and particularly refined products such as butter-cheese contain similarly high levels, so are we expected to all become vegan as well (who still ingest toxins but in much lower levels)?
