One of the joys of making jam is splashing everywhere - if there aren't bright sticky spots everywhere on the splashback and between the cooker and the sink, you're doing it wrong. :)
Went to Bury St Edmunds yesterday afternoon, with no goal in mind and feeling rather bored and not intent on buying anything, so of course we hit the market and wound up with plenty of strawberries (£1 for three small punnets), all stocked up on p‰tŽs and cheeses and pickled artichokes, books and jam jars (very, very nice cooking shop called Merchant's).
The fun began at home when I realised I didn't have enough jars, was running out of sugar and both pots were slightly too small, but at least I got that momentary high on the smell of boiling sugar and an excuse of strawberry to colour the whole stuff. This morning I'm finishing the foamy layer that forms at the top - hey, cook's privilege. :)
For some reason Bury's city centre seems to be developping and in a very good way, with still little shops that aren't part of big groups and a tea shop that serves a mean tatin. 8o)~~
