Hello again.
I've just improvised a stew out of what i had in the fridge and cupboard. It's simmering as i type and I'll tell you all whether it was actually any good or not later on after I've actually tasted it. however, I was wondering if any of you had any ideas on how to make it better-more interesting etc. I'm 23 and, having moved out to live with my boyfriend just over a year ago I am finding cooking one of my most enjoyable pastimes. it's difficult in our little (rented-flat) kitchen but I'm always trying to experiment with new things, and since I'm largely self taught any advice would be welcome. Anyway, here's what i did:

Braising steak, cubed. 1 leek 1 onion 4 mushrooms 2 potatoes, cubed 2 sweet potatoes (cubed) - i get a weekly delivery of organic vegetables and the sweet potatoes always seem to get left over as i'm not sure what to do with them. I haven't had much experience of cooking with them before so I'm slightly wary... 1 beef stock cube, made up to 1-2 pint 1-2 pint red wine rosemary seasoning.
I browned meat and sauteed veg, then dumped it all in the pot with potatoes and poured over stock and wine, liberally sprinkling with rosemary and seasoning. I'm planning on letting it simmer for about an hour.
Watch this space to see if it turns out better than my flapjacks...
