Following up to congokid
Yes, the Trafalgar Tavern was fine. Last time I was there it just did pub grub which was also fine. This time it had a restaurant open, (maybe it did last time but I didnt notice). The Yacht also did pub grub type food last time I used it, also OK. I want to go back and try Pru Leiths restro, which I didnt know existed. The place I didnt think much of is a French style allegedly upmarket place (maybe the Spread Eagle?) which was all pretence, prices and mediocrity. I remember they forgot to bring one main course and then did a Basil Forte "oh you wanted a main course?" In the Trafalgar Carol had a very nice "seafood risotto" lots of fish and seafood with more of a paella rice, the Kiwi Cussies had fish and chips with mushy peas, no doubt on the menu for such tourists, which they liked (came with a lattice pile of chips just like "posh nosh", good for them for not being scared off doing it, it looked nice) I had pork with mushroom slices in a glossy rich sauce, quenelles of stuffing and fondant potatoes, side dish of various veg. Attentive, charming and easy on the eye waiter. Had a beer in the Gypsy Moth, which has a pleasant outdoor area, overlooked by the Cutty Sark. Ive also eaten in the Cutty Sark, down the road, food not special at all IIRC, also full of chavs on our visit. Nice upstairs bar. -- Mike Reid
