I am as old as you are . :-) and this was not the case unless down south was different than up north .... and no this is not meant as a N .. S bashing thing :-) I grew up in a very small village and on the main street there was the coach inn with the greengrocer across the road, three house down was the cobblers next him was the electrical shop and another small greengrocers. Around the bend was Ivy cottage which was the bakery and the cafe, up from there was the fishmongers next to the fishmongers was another shop but for the life of me I cannot remember I do no that it was taken over by the post office which made it into a news agents and more room for the post office. I do believe that there was a chemist in there as well.

Across the street up from the pub the coach inn was a couple of small houses, next to them was the village butcher there was an alley way next to the butchers where the council had there yard and where I went to my cub Scouts meetings. Across the alley way was the police station where the police man lived and we as young lads raided the back garden over the six foot high wall to raid the apple tree. :-) Next to the police station was a couple more houses and next to them was an ironmongers, fish and chip shop and the barbers.

Now I would clbutt this as a one stop shop. :-))

Ready made meals can be good "if" they are made properly .....................

Agreed

After seeing what has-is being done to farmers it is a wonder that we will have enough food to eat. My inlaws have been forced out od business due to the low prices that they was getting for there products. :-((

It is funny reading this, the misses has been away for a couple of weeks and I decided to clean house I mean really clean, I came across papers from my final exams from the early sixties, .... three hours; out of nine questions answer three ........ one of the questions .... please give the pros and cons and the differences between a supermarket and a butchers shop. this question was one with the most scoring points.

Alan Holmes Well, other than you, obviously, there are people in the UK and pretty much everywhere who are interested in the world around them. And...

Every thing that I wrote on that paper has and is coming true, any were from quality, quanbreasty, shady tricks, pay backs, rip off to just pure garbage.

and yes, I did pbutt the exams with top honours.

to a point

Some do and some don't

As proven in the past you made sure that you had things by five on saturday night as every thing was closed on sunday. :-(

I know that some people will say that there are people that work shift work my misses is a nurse, so I do no all about that but we all got two 1 1-2 days off a week. My thing is that there is only so much money to be spent by the general public, opening twenty four hours a day seven days a week just dose not cut it.

If they are spread out over a wide area then I will agree with you.
