I can't imagine that anyone at the BBD actually commissions some of the rubbish that's shown -- I think the programme makers wave a load of surveys and viewing figures around to prove that tripe is what 'the public' actually wants to watch.
Even that was altered, so I understand, to cater to 'modern' tastes -- I thought the love interest between Doctor and Companion felt 'wrong'; several friends of mine said that, while it didn't offend them, it wouldn't have been so blatant in 'the old days'.
Like library fines. I don't have to pay many, but I resent paying any now that I know the money goes into the general County income fund. I thought it went to buy more books :-( snip list
I agree with you... but occasionally I wonder why I hate some of those things so much. I seriously dislike some presenters, so the script has no effect, I hate the voice or style of delivery. (I did so enjoy the 'Historian Wars' skits but alas, can't remember whether it was Dead Ringers or Rory Bremner). Some programme presentation styles offend me, but I wonder whether I've buttociated the 'modern' style with the 'dumbing-down' that so often accompanies it. I try to tell myself that missing the paternalistic lecturer (think of Clarke presenting 'Civilisation') is a sign of age rather than, er, maturity :-
