Again, nit picking. There are many excellent small independent breweries in the UK. I can't remember the last time I had a problem both obtaining and drinking a good beer. Keg beer is not only found in the UK! Can you find excellent tap beers throughout all of Europe?

Here you have a reasonable point, but it's arguable where the fault lies. Is it with the government, financially tight or ignorant parents, culture, local authorities, lack of adequate training of the cooking staff or a mixture of many? Jamie hasn't found the answer yet.

We have hundreds of regional specialities, which for their geographical location are appropriate eg. northern dishes take into lower average temps and may lean toward "heavier" food than would be appropriate for southern counties. We have cheeses, sausages, pies, sweets etc which compare favourably with any which I have found on the continent. Many are indeed different, but this does not detract from their quality.
We don't yet seem to be able to produce sufficient cooks(chefs), with a love of the culinary arts - it is improving. It does not nullify the point that the quality dishes are there. They just need people to explore the possibilities and indeed refine the product:-(
I re-iterate my original premise. Continental cooks overall have a greater love affair with food, but it is the food ie, cuisine which I debating and not the cook's ability.
