I have a problem.
Yesterday afternoon, we pulled up a bumper harvest of onions from the allotment. So my wife made French onion soup for supper. And it was wonderful, with a beautifully delicate, sweet flavour.
It was so tasty, I had three bowls of it.
Egg mayonaseeddie surprised us with Here's Delia's: Home-made Mayonnaise Home-made mayonnaise made by the traditional method...
Subsequently, last night, I couldn't sleep at all. My stomach was going round like a washing machine, and - excuse the indelicacy - I was farting like it was going out of fashion. I didn't know it was possible for one person to produce so much gas in such s short space of time.
Thing is, I don't recall ever having had this problem with onions before. Is it a known effect? Is it a problem that is particularly related to fresh rather than stored onions? Or is it just my gluttony to blame?
The asparagus is also doing well at the moment, so as well as the farting I shall probably also have stinky wee to contend with.
And while I'm at it, we've also got a load of artichokes that are nearly ready to be picked. Are there any side-effects of excessive artichoke consumption I should be aware of? (I'm well aware of what eating Jerusalem artichokes can do to you, but these are the globe type.)
cheers,
d.
