Your posts are usually astute Lescor, but not on this occasion. Beckham hogged dead ball situations when Gerrard might have been a better option. Then after Beckham leaves the field, Lampard hogs the free kicks. I recall at least two occasions when Gerrard put it on a plate for Lampard who squandered the opportunity. There was even one corner for England late in the game, and because poor Fat-Frank did not have the lungs, Gerrard had to go over and take it.
Gerrard and Lampard never play well together. The manager should have realised this a long time ago and then had the balls to drop one of them. But even with one so out of form, he still could not do it.
For a spell in that 2nd half, when Beckham was injured, and his reaction looking like it could be the end of his World Cup, I was thinking what a lucky manager Sven is, when all of his difficult decisions are made for him. But then the Rooney sending off, and we were always having to hang on, and hope that we might get a set piece from which to score.
