Paul Eaton 21 September 2005 Xabi Alonso is confident Liverpool will end their goalscoring problems at Birmingham this weekend as the Reds go in search of their second victory of the season.
Alonso has scored Liverpool's only Premiership goal of the season so far in the 1-0 victory over Sunderland at Anfield and he admits that statistic is a cause for some concern.
But he has no doubts the Reds possess enough quality in attack to start finding the net on a regular basis and build on the excellent defensive performances which have resulted in Liverpool not yet conceding a goal in their opening four league games.
He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Not scoring goals is a worry for us, there's no doubt about it. We are worried because we want to win games and that means we have to score goals. We have to work on that and try to score more.
"I am confident we have enough good players and enough quality to get goals. Look at what we did in Seville against Real Betis. We controlled the first half and scored two good goals.
"I am sure in our next game and the games after that we will show an improvement.
"We have to get the balance right because at the moment our defensive work is perfect. We haven't conceded a goal yet and we have to continue in this way but also look to do better in terms of scoring."
Liverpool travel to St Andrews this weekend to take on a Birmingham City side who recorded a 2-0 victory in this fixture last season.
"It's an important game for us, just like they all are," Alonso added. "If we want to be closer to the top three then we have to start winning away from home and that's what we'll look to do on Saturday."
