That is rubbish. England was defending against Portugal desperately for their lives after Rooney was Sent Off, not necessarily because he was playing so well, but mostly because the 2 players marking Rooney were then freed up to start running rings around England. Even when the 10 men team survive to Penalty Kicks, they do so on tired legs, which do not take penalty kicks very well.
I have already presented that the whole idea of Red Cards reducing a team to 10 Men against 11 Men is itself a huge magnet for corruption and must be removed from the sport. None of the indigenous US sports allow a situation to arise where a team is forced to play with fewer players than the other team. It is disturbing how any spectator around the world could gain entertainment from watching a team play with one arm tied behind their back. Where is the sport on that and what does it prove ?
One thing is for sure: reducing a soccer team to 10 Men invariably Decides the outcome of the match and thus is a huge magnet for Organized Crime Gambling corruption to pay off players and referees to achiev e this end to swing a match against the dorection of gamblers' bets.
