This development again should have pointed to corruption on the part of the referee and there should have been a neverending relentless Press investigation into every bribe-infused decision this referee made before or since, by the Press in the UK to ferret out what was going on here and eventually present evidence to prosecutors to bring down this referee. Do you recall any year long investigation into this referee by the UK Press showing tape after tape of suspicious decious he made in other matches and trying to link him to Organized Crime Gambling ? Surely there was enough interest in this event in the UK that newspapers could have made a fortune selling into the the widespread belief the match was fixed.
Did the name of this referee become a household name in the UK with prison looming in his future ?
If you did not see that kind of Press investigation, it is likely because Media Barons like Rupert Murdoch who control the Media in the UK have their hands dirty with Organized Crime Gambling division operations, and Organized Crime Gambling are likely the people who paid off this referee and perhaps Beckham too to Fix this England-Argentina 1998 world cup match.
It is extremely unusual when two teams are well matched, for a Sent Off of a player by he referee to not ruin the sport of the match and turn the match into a defensive struggle in which the 10 men team is struggling to survive to penalty kicks, and then, because they are more tired than the 11 men team, they lose the penalty kick contest. That is what happened in the England Argentina match in 1998.
