I doubt if even our intolerant fans would have asked why Walcott had not been included in the squad when he had not even had one Prem game for his club side? His inclusion ,without the manager ever seeing him play, was the most unprofessional managerial decision I have ever seen from an England boss. Svens comment that the kid now needs more time sums it up. The bench are there as viable replacements, but not in this case it seems. Owen off, and leading against what we consider to be one of the weakest opponents, but we disrupt the side because the kid bought along to shadow for Owen is considered not to be ready.
Nothing against Walcott, and almost certain he has plenty of talent ( Wenger makes few mistakes) but to pick him unseen ,when already committed to including 2 forwards with doubts because of injury, was plain idiocy. He will almost certainly play at some stage against Sweden ,if fit, just to save Svens face, and I hope he has a blinder if he does, but if our progress depended on the result and the game was close he would not get a seconds consideration for that match and even less for the next stages.
True, but after at least 2 years of knowing who at least 3 of his midfield picks be he still has no idea how to best play them. A bit late now. But we will look better against Sweden in a more open game.
