Well. I don't follow Chelsea's or any other sides reported transfer interests that closely, but nevertheless your claim smacks of absolute cobblers. Seems to me that Chelsea interest in players on the market comes from the press and is automatic if any decent player wants to go even if the club deny it. Mourhino wanted decent clbutt and cover in all positions. He now has it in most places and we can buttume he will be in the market less in future and the buying and selling will become more balanced. From early reports, when the Russian took over and Kenyon arrived, they do have a long term financial plan but first need the team to produce the projected results. It is easy to target this side as a rich mans toy but I doubt that this is so. Whatever Abromovitch is, he is certainly not an idiot in financial matters and he knows that his side can be successful but also make money in the long term. It's called financial investment.
It would be interesting to see a list of these players which Chelsea definitely bid for (but did not really want ) just to force other sides towards bankruptcy? Another footballing myth maybe?
It becomes more difficult not to be forced to jump to the defence of Chelsea, -a fine side with a brilliant manger - in the face of all this nonsense which sees only the spending but nothing else. Venger is a proven manager of quality, but even his views seem to be coloured with envy. What did he call Chelsea? Wimbledon with a chequebook? LOL...how that might come back to haunt him?
