Rooney by himself costed Man Utd almost as much as Carvalho and Ferreira together costed Chelsea so claiming Man Utd wouldn't have the money to buy both is plain silly, Mourinho banked on 2 proven players at European level while SAF gambled on an 18 year old.
You don't see Mourinho buying Klebersons or Djembas, Liam Millers or Josemis.
I heard the rumor that SAF wants Gravesen. If I was a Man Utd fan I'd be more upset about that than wasting my breath about Malcom Glazer.
I have a dream where Benitez in his eternal stupidity ships CissZ out in January straight to Wenger's waiting arms. I hope so, I think CissZ is great and needs to play in an attacking team and he and Henry, RVP and DB provide 4 good options for Arsenal's attacking line. CissZ at Higbury-Ashburton Grove would prove a big success IMHO.
Chelsea's squad is deeper and more balanced than any other but their starting XI isn't far superior in talent to that of Man Utd or Liverpol they just have a modern tactician while the other 2 don't but I don't see a mbuttive gap in player quality except for certain positions.
It's not like Carvalho is better than Ferdinand. Del Horno isn't better than Heinze Crespo-Drogba aren't better finishers than RVN. Robben isn't better than C-Ron. Park isn't inferior to an off-form Duff
I prefer Alonso to Essien I'll take missused CissZ over Carlton Cole. I definitely prefer Garcia over SWP Carragher and Gallas are about even
Needless to say the other 2 have nobody on the level of Cech, Makelele, Lampard or Ferreira.
I just don't see this mbuttive edge in player quality that Abramovitch's money has bought Chelsea, from my perspective it's fairly even, the difference is in the manager.
For the life of me I don't understand how Liverpol fans stomach Benitez? Is it because of the CL? How long will the CL win buy him goodwill from the fans? Liverpool's premiership form is absolutely terrible and the quality of their game is incredibly boring. In any other country the fans would be waving white handkerchiefs at him and screaming at the board to fire him, for a club with Liverpool's legacy the fans should demand more than what he's producing, the squad is good enough to achive more, a lot more IMHO.
In fact Liverpool's squad overall is much deeper and balanced than Arsenal and the club has more money to spend so forget the title, the better question is why does Liverpool finish bellow Arsenal when they have more quality available to their manager to work with?
Carragher-Hypia Vs Cambell-Toure? I'll take Liverpool. Hamman-Alonso Vs Fabregas-Silva? I'll take Liverpool. CissZ Vs Reyes? As a striker? CissZ definitely. Garcia Vs Pires? Right now? Garcia.
Wenger definitely gets more results out of a limited squad than Benitez does. Benitez is trying to imitate Chelsea's playbook by having a strong defence and dominant midfield but he's not able to match Chelsea's results.
When you have a duo of centre-backs like Carragher-Hypia and 2 DMs like Hamman-Alonso (how many managers wouldn't kill to have these 4?)and you still suffer goals through the middle of the terrain then the fault lies with the manager because he's got quality players yet gets no results.
