There is no way that this Referee consulted his linesman because he was running directly to the center of the penalty area to give the Ukraine defender a Yellow Card as prelude to the penalty before anyone knew what was happening. The linesman, when he sees the determination of the referee to Fix the match are generally deferential. I have never seen a linesman run onto the field and tell the referee he is making the wrong decision. Either way, the referee should always go face to face and look the linesman in the eyewhen accepting his input on a big play. In the World Cup Final Elizondo did this when Sent Off Zidane, but not in 3 or 4 other big plays which would have favored France.

The bottom line is that this match was Fixed and the bodies responsible such as FIFA, have to start with what is needed to eradicate this problem. The only possible solution is Instant Replay video playback. This is being used successfully in the US National Football League.
Dear John Shocker 638As I have stated, I do not see much of world soccer, being in the US. Did you see this referee...
Such as ?
That is a clear argument for Instant Replay video introduction in world soccer, at the very least in International play and the respective premier leagues. The linesmen, again, would have had no chance to notify the Referee this decision was wrong because it was made so precipitously with a Yellow Card to the defender. This Referee sent a message to the linesmen in making that declarative initial act to "Be quiiet. This Decision is my Graft for the week. I'll split it with you if you want..."
