Liverpool Football Club have appointed spiritual medium Derek Acorah to try and help find potential investors.

The star of UK Living's 'Most Haunted' and 'Ghost Towns' was hired by the board following a personal recommendation by chief executive Rick Parry who recently appointed Cheyelle Omar as the club's first ever poet.

Acorah - who was signed by the legendary Bill Shankly - will work with his buttistant Sam from Anfield initially on a year's basis.

Making the announcement on www.derekacorah.org, Derek said: "I'm really looking forward to working for the club again.

"As soon as Rick approached me, the idea sounded great and it was certainly something that I wouldn't turn down.

"Having spoke to Sam about it, we were both confident that we could help the club find potential investment.

"My old boss (Bill Shankly) is up there looking down over Anfield. He has his own team up there so he's up to date with today's game. I will run everything by him first before approaching the board!

"In the year 2000 I said the club would win several trophies that season. This time I'm sure that I can find gold instead of silver."

Although chief executive Rick Parry wouldn't confirm the appointment, he did admit the club wouldn't rule out new 'alternative' ideas.

Parry said: "Because of confidentiality agreements I can not comment on individuals or groups that are employed by the club.

"I can confirm that we are exploring various avenues to help us secure investment which is something we have been doing for some time.

"Controversial methods do not worry us if they could be in the best interests of the club."
