Manchester United star Wayne Rooney could have to go back to school to avoid court action over a road crash. His BMW X5 was in collision with a Nissan Primera at Stanley Green retail park roundabout in Cheadle Hulme, Greater Manchester, on 12 May.
The 45-year-old female driver of the Nissan suffered whiplash injuries.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "A 19-year-old man from Cheshire has been referred to the driver improvement scheme."
He added: "If the driver agrees to attend the scheme and successfully completes the course then no further action will be taken."
The England striker was summonsed on a charge of driving without due care and attention and if he went to court could face a maximum fine of £5,000 and a possible ban.
The one-and-a-half day course - which alternates between Bury and Carrington, near Manchester United's training ground - costs £150.

The course re-examines good driving attitudes and is usually on Friday and Saturday with lessons including clbuttroom theory on the Highway Code and practical clbuttes.
Students have to drive with an instructor in a driving school car and homework has to be handed in the next day.
