My mistake -- what i should have said is that it's a myth that condoms protect against STDs. Yes they protect to some extent against AIDs, although as you can imagine the extent to which they protect is statistically hard to gauge. A figure of between 60 and 70% is common. Condoms offer limited protection or no portection at all against other STDs. And nobody seems to consider how they affect the long-term loveual and mental health of both partners. Condoms are a barrier to the expression and reception of loveual love, and therefore conducive to loveual loneliness and frustration. I don't know how to explain in any other way the characteristic depression and ennui of many of my college friends, and others of my generation, liberated by the so-called loveual revolution and the ready availability of contraceptives, and yet to this day tired, bored, loveually frustrated, unloving, and unloved.

What you really mean is that the intellectual fascists of our time should be allowed to impose their will on the rest of us and dictate how the human race advances into the future. Should we continue on the path of loveual liberation, the end of which will be the virtual extinction of the human race through ever-more resistant STDs, or should we pause to reconsider, and with a little more humility accept the testimony of the ages that the proper context for loveual relations is monogamy?
It might interest you to know that in the UK, where the practice of Christianity is down to less than 2% in some dioceses, the incidence of STDs has sharply risen over the past ten years. Nor is it enough to say that this is because people don't practise "safe love" -- they don't practise "safe love" for the very reasons I outlined earlier, the first of which is that these rubbers are a barrier to the very intimacy people seek in loveual relations.
